Dr. Mark McClintock sees patients in our Trussville and Pell City offices. He grew up in South Louisiana and attended Bethel College in Tennessee on a four-year basketball scholarship. He graduated summa cum laude in 1982. Dr. McClintock earned his degree in Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and then completed a residency at the Tuscaloosa Veteran’s Administration Medical Center.
Following his residency, Dr. McClintock joined the staff of the nationally renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami for three years. Bascom Palmer serves as the Department of Ophthalmology for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida and is recognized as one of the world’s finest and most progressive centers for ophthalmic care, research, and education. His three years at Bascom Palmer have uniquely qualified Dr. McClintock to diagnose and treat a wide variety of eye diseases. Following his training at Bascom Palmer, he spent 12 years as Clinical Director of the Jupiter Eye Center located in Jupiter, Florida. While in Florida, Dr. McClintock served as the team Optometrist for the Montreal Expos.
During his career, Dr. McClintock has co-managed over 20,000 pre and post-operative cataract surgeries and over 13,000 refractive surgeries. Dr. McClintock became the managing partner at VisionFirst in 2002 and works with his optometric colleagues in north Alabama to design and coordinate VisionFirst’s surgical co-management program.
Dr. McClintock specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases and has over 30 years’ experience with fitting contact lenses. He and his wife, Michelle, live in Birmingham with their two daughters.
