
Dr. Mark Bearman has been practicing ophthalmology since 1989. He sees patients in our Alabaster, Trussville and Pell City offices. He graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in 1984. He earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he was granted a merit scholarship from the state and became a member of the prestigious Tinsley Harrison Society. Dr. Bearman performed his residency in ophthalmology at the Oschner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, where he was chief resident, and a fellowship in oculoplastics in San Francisco, CA. He became board-certified in ophthalmology in 1990.
Dr. Bearman has performed more than twenty-five thousand cataract surgeries. He is an experienced ophthalmologist who also performs state-of-the-art vision correction techniques. Dr. Bearman was one of the first surgeons in Birmingham to begin using the ReSTOR lens, a multifocal lens that minimizes the need for eyeglasses for cataract patients and he was the first surgeons in Alabama to perform cataract surgery using the LENSx. Dr. Bearman’s dedication and unique home-like demeanor make his patients feel like members of his extended family. With his passion for the latest technology, the sophisticated expertise of a refractive eye surgeon and extensive experience with the most advanced lasers, Dr. Bearman helps his patients achieve the best vision possible.
Dr. Bearman is a native of Birmingham, and after a long hiatus, returned home in 1997 where he serves as Medical Director at VisionFirst Eye Center. He has been a Clinical Investigator for several research companies, including Alcon Laboratories and Pharmacia. He is board-certified in ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Dr. Bearman and his wife, Jodi, live here in Birmingham. They have four children: a son, Talor, and three daughters, Blayke, Morgan, and Emory.
