VisionFirst Home Run Promotion Helping Kids See

We were excited to be able to partner with Birmingham Barons again this year to raise $5,000 for SightSavers America. During the 2015 Barons season, we raised donations from our generous patients and staff in addition to our home-run promotion; which we donated $100 to Sight Savers America for the 35 Barons home run at Regions Field.

Sight Savers America is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive eye care and services at no charge for under served children in Alabama. The donations received by Sight Savers America was used to provide two life-changing Electronic Video Magnifiers (EVMs) for 2 local children with severe visual impairment. EVMs will open the world to these children by allowing them to magnify images up to 79X and read, write and do homework unassisted.

September 1, 2015 the two children, ages 13 and 17, and their families received training on their new EVM at Regions field. After the training, they both enjoyed their first Barons baseball game. These children are at a big disadvantage in school and life because of their eye condition, but an EVM can level the playing field for these kids.

“We at VisionFirst Eye Center are happy about making a difference in a childʼs vision through Sight Savers. This is our third year to do the Barons home run promotion and we find it very fulfilling.” – Dr. Mark McClintock
